What is this site all about?

This is a fully functioning demo site showing you a Video & Content Management application that you can use to make money as well as use as a blogging tool. The example videos used would obviously be your own created from your knowledge of things you are a specialist at so the ones used on the site are basically showing how content can be restricted so you can charge for stuff you would normally maybe put out on dvd or youtube etc. Whether it’s step by step instructions on how to set a bonafide business up or just teaching someone how to build a product or service that is the type of thing you can do in your sleep, which is invaluable help to someone that wants to further themselves and get to be as good as you.

and your point is?

We all love learning but can you ever find something or a hero to follow that actually shows you how to go from zero to hero? not usually as there is often so much detail left unexplained as the help found is usually free and the teacher usually expects his viewers to be round about there with the subject. For inquisitive types and keen learners most of the help fails to address some points they have like why the task is being performed in such a way or maybe some terminology isn't clear or doesn't relate or a critical step is missed out as after all the guy put it up for free so it's not in his interest to spend a million hours explaining the far end of a fart. This is where you step in - how you got where you are now didn’t come cheap did it so here’s your shot at helping yourself - You are the hero this time.

Hasn’t all this been done already?

Sure.. but are you doing it and if you aren't then why not? There is stuff all over the net like vimeo on demand but that's all quite a disjointed experience for any user and it costs you for something you'll never own and they take commision for your hard work. Having a site just like this feels more like an app on mobile and to be honest even if you are selling a series of videos relating to a topic you are asking the user to question whether they actually want to commit as they know that the next set will cost them the same so do they really want it? Were your teasers good enough? Once learnt do they need to keep it? Who knows. With the subscription model those questions dissapear and it's easier to get your numbers up depending on your pricepoint. Users drop in and out, some stay signed because it's useful and an insignificant cost to what you give them and the monthly cost.

How does it work?

As the owner you'll be able to add videos, articles and pages to the site to keep your users engaged which maybe what you do currently for free. Hopefully this time you'll get them to subscribe to your content whilst keeping the free stuff to attract users. You can choose to make your videos and posts available for free or some only to subscribers so you can pick and choose the teasers and the stuff you put the effort into earns you a revenue. You can link a Stripe account to your site so you get paid straight to your bank for users who subscribe to your site and unlock the premium content. You add your videos, add your articles, add your price point, post the hell out of your free stuff on facebook or wherever and then take in money from your subscribers - easy as that!

How do I get paid?

Stripe is a hassle free payment handler like all of them should be. Stripe charges 1.9% + 20p for domestic cards and 2.9% + 20p for international cards. Earnings are transferred to your bank account on a 7-day rolling basis. You sign up for your own stripe account and you just use the api keys in your app settings so you can take monthly subscriptions from your users. They can cancel anytime and if they come backthey can just set their subscription off again.

Where is this useful...

You may already be spending your life giving youtube subscribers all your knowledge for free and need to be earning from it instead

You may sell dvd's of what you do and need a tidy website to join the future with the method explained above.

You may be a teacher or business owner punting dvd courses out which don't get the take up you'd hoped as in this day and age people are happier watching their content either on the go or in a multitude of situations where dvd just doesn't cut it for how the user rolls.

You may sell video already via vimeo or other online services but are not happy with having them control your business or taking a cut of your sales and charging you a subscription fee every year.

You realise subscription is the way forward? Get a user interested with a thirst for learning and they'll happily keep subscribed for just a few pounds a month for all your hard work as they only learn from it. It's part of their plan to get better being able to learn and reference a reserve they really appreciate. Whether they just need to access a few premium videos and then cancel after the 1st charge or simply continue subscribing because you are very active in the content you keep coming up with, you still make money and you are not asking anyone to commit a large fee for a series or download so the model for commiting to you is different.

Expert tutorial videos for anything really, things like how to set up a business or create a company from scratch would do well as often people have a great plan or product but need help with the business side which is better visually explained. There are lots of things but then that’s up to you to identify and then get busy with screen recordings, building projects, writing articles and building your user base and subscribers.

Can I offer free a trial?

Yep sure. When you create your monthly subscription in your stripe account you get the choice to add a trial period of any length.

Can I offer free membership then upgrade?

Yep sure. You can let people register as users for free where they can save their favourite free videos into a collection. If they want then they can upgrade to get at the stuff you are charging for.
